The Epidaurus open sea sailing race is a unique race that is based on the great love of all, both organizers and participants, for the sea. It takes place in June every year, in the picturesque bay of New Epidaurus, in the Argo-Saronic Gulf.
It is organized by the Nautical Sports Association of New Epidaurus in cooperation with the Peace and Friendship Nautical Sports Association and lasts for three days (Friday, Saturday and Sunday). This unique amateur race, which is based on companionship and good sportsmanship, has been held since 2002. Initially it included 2 sailing races: Faliron – Ancient Epidaurus – Faliron. A third race was added in 2008 though, as an intermediate stop on the island of Aegina was introduced, and Ancient Epidaurus was replaced by New Epidaurus in 2009.
During the three-day race, dozens of crews fill the beautiful waters of the Argo-Saronic Gulf with plenty of color. They struggle against the wind with strength and determination to reach the finish line, to be rewarded by the trophies and the warm applause of the fans.
Upon completion of the two races on Saturday night, the picturesque and hospitable harbor of New Epidaurus hosts the awards ceremony for the winners of the initial races, with the participation of the town’s dance company. This is a night for the athletes to rest, enjoying the products and warmth of the land of Epidaurus.
